The Lane County Historical Museum celebrated its 50th birthday on September 19th, 2001. Originally located adjacent to the Lane County Fairgrounds, the museum was housed in a 3,000 square foot cinderblock building. In 1959-60 the facility was expanded by the addition of a large exhibition hall, restrooms and office space. Beginning in 1996 the Friends of the Lane County Historical Museum began to operate the museum under contract with Lane County; the Friends and the Lane County Historical Society merged in 2006 and today the Society administers the museum with the help of county room tax monies.
