Projects & Grants

1. Photo Digitization Project- A major conservation project initiated in December 2007 with grant monies. The museum curates three collections of nitrate cellulose negatives (Chester Stevenson, Kennell Ellis and Elizabeth Romane) in a building without proper climate controls. Some 20,000 negatives are being digitized at high resolution and a smaller version provided for online access. To date over 30,000 images are online through the Online Photo Catalog . Grant funders included Oregon Cultural Trust, Trust Management Services, and the Oregon Heritage Commission. A final grant from the Lane County Cultural Coalition allowed the project to finish up in November 2011.

2. Don Hunter Project: This project was initiated in July 2010 and involves the gift of roughly 150,000 images from the collection of the University of Oregon’s retired audio-visual head, Don L. Hunter. Work is currently underway at the LCHM as Don Hunter staff and volunteers, organize, scan, edit, archive, and upload images to the web. Enjoy hearing about the project here.

How to Turn 35mm Slides into a Presentation

The following slideshow is an approximation of a presentation prepared by Don Hunter, founder and director of the University of Oregon's Audio-Visual Media Center. The original presentation was intended for use in classroom lectures, and was created with this audience in mind. What we have set out to do is to reproduce this show for a different audience. All slides are Don's, and narration is by his son, Gary Hunter. Don built blank spaces into the show, during which time he would elaborate on the concepts introduced on screen. Here, in lieu of Don's instructions, we added additional slides to illustrate the points he presents.
